Why a story — and why the Gita

1. पहले, एक आम शाम

   खाने की मेज़ पर वही ज़िद। नौ बजे वही phone।

   The same stand-off at dinner. The same phone at nine.

   दिन भर के बाद हम थके होते हैं, और बच्चा उसी वक़्त सबसे ज़्यादा जागा होता है। सवाल भी छोटे नहीं होते — “सब करते हैं तो मैं क्यों नहीं?” जवाब उस पल में सूझता ही नहीं।

   By nine we are tired and they are wide awake. And the questions are not small ones — “everyone does it, so why can't I?” The answer simply does not arrive in that moment.

2. जो हम पहले आज़मा चुके हैं

   समझाना टिकता नहीं। YouTube और उलझा देता है।

   The talk does not hold. YouTube only tangles it further.

   Lecture शुरू होते ही बहस शुरू हो जाती है — यह बच्चे की ग़लती नहीं, इस उम्र का स्वभाव है। YouTube पर एक अच्छी कहानी के बाद दस और आ जाती हैं। और “बड़ा होकर ख़ुद समझ जाएगा” वाला दिन अपने आप नहीं आता।

   A lecture starts an argument — that is not the child's fault, it is simply the age. One good story on YouTube becomes ten more. And the day they “understand it on their own when they are older” does not arrive by itself.

   

3. फिर एक बात समझ आई

   संस्कार सिखाए नहीं जाते। सुनाए जाते हैं।

   Values are not taught. They are told.

   बच्चा lecture से बहस करता है, कहानी से नहीं। कहानी सुनते वक़्त वह ख़ुद को उस पात्र की जगह रख देता है और फ़ैसला ख़ुद करता है। जो उसने ख़ुद तय किया, वही उसके पास रह जाता है।

   A child argues with a lecture, never with a story. Inside a story they stand in the character's place and decide for themselves — and what they decide themselves is what stays with them.

4. और गीता?

   गीता ख़ुद कोई lecture नहीं — एक बातचीत है।

   The Gita is not a lecture either. It is a conversation.

   रथ पर एक दोस्त अटक जाता है और सवाल पूछता है। भगवान जवाब देते हैं — नियमों की सूची से नहीं, समझा कर। यह ढंग बच्चों के लिए बना हुआ लगता है, इसीलिए हमने इसी ढंग को रखा।

   On the chariot a friend gets stuck, and asks. Bhagavan answers — not with a list of rules, but by explaining. That shape feels made for children, so we kept it exactly as it is.

   

5. इसलिए हमने यह बनाया

   Amritpur — गीता, बच्चों की भाषा में।

   हफ़्ते में एक कहानी, करीब तेरह मिनट की। हिंदी पहले, दादी की आवाज़ में। एक हफ़्ता, एक बात। screen बंद करके सिर्फ़ सुनना भी चलता है — सोने से पहले के लिए यही सबसे अच्छा है।

   One story a week, about thirteen minutes long. Hindi first, in Dadi's voice. One idea a week. Screen-off mode plays the narration alone — which is how most families use it at bedtime.
